25 years ago, I began my journey of playing the harp. And what a great trip it's been! Twenty-five years is a big milestone. One that naturally leads to the question, "What next?" How about paying it forward to a cause dear to my heart?
For the past 3 years, I've presented an October concert in my hometown (Chesterton IN) to aid my local county's animal shelter. This concert, called "Friends of Francis" in honor of St. Francis of Assisi (patron saint of animals & the environment), is supported by a growing number of Porter County fans & animal lovers. Now, in addition to the concert, I'm ready to take this cause to another level.
I've started work on a new CD project, also to be called "Friends of Francis," (FOF) that will allow me to help animals in need all year round. This recording will include traditional tunes from Scotland, Ireland & Appalachia, original compositions, & a few surprises... all with animal names! A percentage of all FOF CD sales will be donated to local & national animal care organizations.
I plan to start recording in early 2012, and I'll be blogging about my studio sessions & project progress, including its culmination with a CD release concert (or maybe a tour!). Here's to the "creatures great & small," and a new way to help them. I hope you'll follow me on this new journey.
